Backtyping is a copyrighted software program that assigns types, like blood types, to backs. The Backtyping software, uses the information from Medx to assign a practical code - or back type - to each individual. The purpose of BACKTYPING is to provide objective, quantitative and practical information for both the clinical and the work environments by categorizing the five parameters which are determined by testing on the Medx lumbar extension machine. Those five parameters are: the level of strength, the range of motion, the level of fatiguability, the exercise response, and the presence (or absence) of a specific deficit area.
Due to the necessity of individual effort and the need for the individual to understand that he or she is in complete control of the machine and, therefore, cannot be injured, the determination is made after three sessions. Contact Dr. Lehrman's office for information concerning Medx testing. |

The
Medx lumbar extension testing machine, designed by Mr. Arthur
Jones, founder and developer of the Nautilus athletic exercise
equipment and chairman of Medx Corporation is the only back testing
equipment certified by a major university. The University of Florida
Medical School and Human Performance Laboratory confirm the machine's
capability of isolating lumbar extensor muscles for objective,
reproducible, and safe analysis of that muscle group. The testing is
non-invasive and specific in enabling this evaluation of the primary
supporters of the lumbar spine.
This
testing is specific and isolates the lumbar muscles by placing one
in a sitting position on the chair of the apparatus. As one sits, the
technician restrains the individual's legs such that the only
measurable movement from the lower body is specific to the lumbar region.
